Chasing Slow...

Something on my mind today as RDub and I enjoy this weather -

We never really know what’s going on in someone else’s life that might slow down a deadline.

But something that’s really important to me, especially as a mama whose business comes after family, is choosing quality over quantity in work and projects and most areas of life.

I always compare it to… I’d rather wait on a steak than rush through and grab a cheeseburger.

Recently, someone told me they needed a new website designer because their current one takes 24 hours to make changes… and they need things faster than that. That is wild to me that 24 hours is too slow. I said I really can’t be much faster than your current person, ha.

Or I’ll return a call 2 hours later and hear, “’Bout time ya called back.” (Said in jest, but also what the heck lol)

And I think… We are so over-connected that we expect everything immediately. Emails answered in minutes. Turnarounds overnight.

Don’t get me wrong, I care deeply about keeping my word and being prompt.

But, sometimes deadlines shift. I intentionally protect certain days to be fully present with Walker. I just say, “I’ll call you tomorrow.” That isn’t popular in our culture, but it’s really important to me.

I just started reading a book called Chasing Slow. And I love the motto… we all need a little more of that.

Because the truth is that graphic design, website development and other creative work… it all takes time. Even with AI around, good work isn’t instant. And when we expect it to be, we devalue creativity.

Life and work aren’t perfect this side of heaven. But I think we can make things a little lighter by stepping off the hamster wheel.

So, I am signing off to make wishes and say prayers with my little dandelion boy.

Are We Doing Too Much?
